Future Travels

My thesis will conclude my 4 years within the BAID at Humber college. Once finished, I will have a published thesis report which will explain my process in depth. Along side this report, I will design and build a scale model to illustrate solution.

Abstract

Hyperloop transportation has been hypothesized as the fifth pillar of mass transportation. This format of transportation has implications which can drastically reduce travel times between large cities, as well as allow users to live farther from work, thus reducing urban congestion. With this new form of transport comes new complications, such as the fear of entering a multi-passenger pressurized tube which has no windows and can travel speeds upwards of 1000km/hr. Once inside this pod, users may experience complications related to claustrophobia, motion sickness and generalized fear. By investigating user dependent needs via interviews and user studies, the solutions to these new problems could be addressed, bettering the user experience. The results of this study will identify the unique characteristics of this new format of travel, as well as create a better human centered and holistic interior experience for Hyperloop users. As various forms of transport move into an autonomous typology, the findings from this study may be adaptable to broader aspects of mass transit ultimately, benefiting a wider scope of users

How Might We...

Mitigate the fears of users during hyperloop travel
